The alternative for non xaml apps is to query the system to understand if dark mode is applied, and to rewrite many system-drawn widget set components which would not otherwise accept custom fonts / colors (different from system colors). See in example PeaZip on Windows in high contrast mode īy design choice, setting "dark mode" does not automatically set "high contrast mode" and vice versa, so you need to set both separately - why it is not even an option to change the two settings accordingly (in order to keep visual consistency across the system), and why the two settings are even on separated pages, beats my imagination. You can however change system colors setting an "high contrast mode", which changes actual system colors (and it is even customizable) for every kind of GUI application. Windows "dark mode" is meant to work, by design, only with xaml GUI applications.
